VA KADPA

VA KADPA는 Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board(CSB)의 지역사회 행사에 참여하여 우리 단체를 소개하고, 버지니아에 거주하는 한인 장애인과 가족들의 이야기를 나누는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다.

미국에 거주하면서도 언어와 정보의 장벽으로 인해 지역사회에서 이용할 수 있는 다양한 서비스나 한인 장애인 단체의 존재를 알지 못하는 가족들이 있습니다. 이번 만남을 통해 더 많은 한인 장애인 가족들에게 VA KADPA를 알리고, 필요한 정보와 도움을 받을 수 있도록 지역사회와 연결하는 우리 단체의 역할을 소개했습니다.

또한 장애인과 가족들을 위해 늘 애써 주시는 CSB 관계자분들께 감사의 마음을 전하고자 한국의 정을 담은 스낵 구디백을 준비해 전달했습니다. 작은 선물이지만 그동안의 수고에 감사하는 마음을 함께 나눌 수 있어 더욱 뜻깊었습니다.

CSB에서 마련한 피크닉 행사에도 함께 참여하여 다양한 지역사회 구성원들과 직접 만나 교류하고 VA KADPA를 알리는 시간을 가졌습니다. 단순히 우리 단체를 홍보하는 것을 넘어, 한인 장애인 가족들의 목소리와 필요를 지역사회에 알리고 서로를 이해하며 연결될 수 있었던 소중한 자리였습니다.

앞으로도 VA KADPA는 한인 장애인과 가족들이 지역사회 안에서 필요한 정보와 지원으로부터 소외되지 않도록 함께하며, 지역사회 기관들과 지속적으로 소통하고 협력해 나가겠습니다.

Community Outreach with Fairfax CSB

VA KADPA had the meaningful opportunity to participate in a community event with the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB), where we introduced our organization and shared information about Korean American individuals with disabilities and their families in Virginia.

Some Korean American families may be unaware of disability organizations and community resources available to them due to language or information barriers. Through this outreach, we hoped to help more families learn about VA KADPA and understand that there is a Korean American disability community where they can connect, find information, and receive support.

As a small gesture of appreciation for the CSB staff and their dedication to individuals with disabilities and their families, VA KADPA also prepared Korean-style snack goodie bags. We joined the CSB picnic, met members of the broader community, and shared more about VA KADPA and the families we serve.

It was a meaningful opportunity not only to introduce VA KADPA, but also to strengthen connections between Korean American families and the broader community and to share the role our organization can play in building a more connected and inclusive community.
