버지니아에서 제주까지, 꿈을 향한 새로운 도전
전미주 장애인체전 수영 1위 헨리 군, 제46회 전국장애인체육대회 참가 경험 나눠

2026년 6월 텍사스에서 열린 전미주 장애인체전에서 버지니아 대표로 출전한 헨리 군이 수영 종목에서 1위를 차지하며 좋은 성적을 거두었습니다. 이후 헨리 군은 버지니아를 대표해 한국 제주도에서 열린 제46회 전국장애인체육대회에 번외 경기 선수로 참가하며 또 하나의 소중한 경험을 쌓았습니다.
이번 대회에는 한국 각 지역의 장애인 선수들뿐 아니라 미국에서 참가한 선수들도 함께해 다양한 종목에서 그동안 갈고닦은 실력을 펼쳤습니다. 장애를 넘어 자신의 목표를 향해 최선을 다하고 끊임없이 도전하는 선수들의 모습은 함께한 가족들에게도 큰 감동과 용기를 전해 주었습니다.
헨리 군과 가족은 이번 제주 대회의 사진과 이야기를 VA KADPA 가족들과 함께 나누며, 대회의 현장과 경험을 소개했습니다. 특히 앞으로 전미주 장애인체전에서 좋은 성적을 거두고 더 큰 무대에 도전할 버지니아의 미래 선수들과 가족들에게 도움이 되기를 바라는 마음으로 참가 과정과 경험을 함께 나누었습니다.
제주에서 선수들을 응원하기 위해 함께한 가족들 역시 지역과 국경을 넘어 만난 다른 선수 가족들과 서로 이야기를 나누고 응원하며 뜻깊은 시간을 보냈습니다. 경기의 결과를 넘어 선수와 가족들이 서로 연결되고, 새로운 가능성과 꿈을 발견할 수 있었던 소중한 시간이었습니다.
이번 경험을 통해 더 큰 무대에서 열심히 도전하는 많은 장애인 선수들의 모습을 직접 보며 “우리도 더욱 힘을 내어 다음 목표를 향해 나아가자”는 새로운 동기와 용기를 얻었다고 전했습니다.
VA KADPA는 헨리 군의 값진 경험과 도전을 축하하며, 앞으로 전미주 장애인체전과 더 큰 무대에서 꿈을 펼쳐 나갈 버지니아의 모든 선수들을 함께 응원합니다.

From Virginia to Jeju: A New Journey Toward a Bigger Dream
Virginia Swimmer Henry Shares His Experience at Korea’s 46th National Para Games
After earning first place in swimming while representing Virginia at the U.S. National Games for Korean American Athletes with Disabilities in Texas in June 2026, Henry had another meaningful opportunity to represent Virginia and participate in an exhibition event at Korea’s 46th National Para Games, held in Jeju.
The event brought together athletes with disabilities from across Korea, along with participating athletes from the United States. Competing in a wide variety of sports, the athletes demonstrated not only their skills, but also their determination to challenge themselves and continue pursuing their goals. Their dedication and perseverance were inspiring to the families who joined them.
Following the competition, Henry and his family shared photos and stories from Jeju with the VA KADPA community, offering families a glimpse into the experience of participating in a major disability sporting event in Korea. They also shared what they learned in hopes that the experience may be helpful to future Virginia athletes and families who may have opportunities to compete and advance to larger stages.
The trip was meaningful for the families as well. Families from different regions and countries had opportunities to meet, encourage one another, exchange experiences, and build new connections beyond the competition itself.
Seeing so many athletes with disabilities work hard, compete with determination, and continue pursuing their dreams provided renewed motivation to keep moving forward and reaching for new goals.
VA KADPA congratulates Henry on this meaningful experience and proudly cheers for all future Virginia athletes as they continue to challenge themselves, grow, and pursue their dreams.
